Spring 23: The Inspiration

The Inspiration
Let us take you on a spring sojourn with our first collection of 2023. Inspired by dreamy European getaways, think long languid lunches in the Sicilian sunshine or romantic strolls around the hilltops markets of ProvenceBy moonlight we are swirling linguine around an artisan crockery in a charming country house or dancing into the early hours at an elegant discothèque par la mer.

Join us in plotting your European escape with elevated, retro prints, directional 80s tailoring and playful use of texture. We asked our Design Manager Sophie how Mediterranean daydreaming became our first collection of '23.

The Prints
What was the inspiration behind the fresh spring prints?
“I have been lucky enough to travel around some beautiful European countries, and always fall in love with the amazing food, cute countryside towns, colourful art and larger than life people. We started this collection with our favourite sunny summer memories and began researching the art and culture that mirrored these spots. Many of the bold and bright prints are inspired by kitsch souvenirs, gorgeous tablescapes and (my fave part) the amazing food.
One of the key prints from the collection is the Vintage Plates Print which is inspired by our love of Mediterranean dining (& who doesn’t dream of small plates…). At KITRI we like to push the boundaries of the traditional, so we played around with this kitsch print and paired it with a slinky, feminine fabrication.”

The Fit
Is there a particular style of silhouette you favoured throughout the collection?
“I love love love oversized, slouchy silhouettes from iconic 80s tailoring. For this season we really wanted to bring back casual power-dressing by leaning into 80’s silhouettes in our Josephine and Edith separates. This relaxed fit continued throughout the collection with our ‘pasta-friendly waistlines’. You will find swishing maxi skirts, boxy shirting and off the shoulder necklines...”

The Texture
How have you added different textures to the collection?
We love playing around with texture in a collection to give each piece that extra wow factor. For example the textured jacquard cottons and jacquard picnic check both nod to playful tablescapes and al fresco dining.
We first experimented with crochet in summer 2022 and KITRI girls LOVED it so we wanted to bring it back in a big way, while staying true to the inspiration of the new collection. You’ll find tons of crochet dresses and separates in bright hues and contemporary silhouettes.”
