For this year’s pop up shop, we wanted to design a shopping bag that would reflect the clothes inside it. So, by using one of our most popular prints, we created a beautiful tote bag that echoes our colourful and playful collection.
You don’t need us to tell you that plastic bags are totes no good for the environment, so it was incredibly important to us that our bags were not only stylish but also reusable, environmentally friendly and ethically sourced.
We therefore partnered up with Bags of Ethics, by manufacturer Supreme Creations, a tote bag manufacturer dedicated to using eco-friendly fabrics and inks whilst also being Fairtrade accredited, certified for organic standards and Vegan. The award-winning supplier also focuses on empowering women at their facility in Pondicherry, South India where 9 out of 10 of the workforce are women – many of whom are the main breadwinners in their families.
The philosophy of the Bags of Ethics is “You Are What You Carry” and focuses on supporting the people and planet behind the manufacturing of the product. You can follow more of their work on Instagram or www.bagsofethics.org
Here are a few photos of the ladies in the production team who made our KITRI tote bags. We are told that they really love our designs, as they are vibrant and colourful like many of their saris.
“I’ve been working at Supreme Creations/Bags of Ethics for 12 years and I love what I do. It is like a family atmosphere here – my managers are not like in other factories – they are like my friends. If I have any troubles at home I can talk about them to the team here and they are so understanding – just like sisters. I feel that coming to work gives me a lot of energy and pride. The other weekend we went on our yearly trip to a beautiful hill station in South India called Kodaikanal. The trip was so fun – we sang, danced, and observed the beautiful nature.
Lots of love from Pondicherry.” S Lakshmi, machinist at Bags of Ethics.
We provide a tote bag with each purchase at our Soho pop up shop. It's open until 22nd December, so do come and say hi!
