Do Ho Suh Victoria Miro Exhibition - KITRI Recommends

A stone's throw away from our North London studio is the ever-inspiring Victoria Miro gallery - this means we are lucky enough to visit the exciting space often. The last time the team popped in, we admired the brilliant Do Ho Suh’s exhibition, simply a must-see.

Made up of site-specific installations, a major highlight for us was his delicate recreations of private rooms and walkways. Varying from his childhood home in South Korea to inner city New York, Berlin and his current London studio. Each section is lovingly recreated with precise stitching down to the smallest detail - we even spotted a lightswitch in one corner, a fire extinguisher in another.

Every room is crafted out of contrasting coloured polyester, slightly translucent and completely collapsable, (destined to eventually travel around the globe, highlighting Do Ho Suh’s ‘modern nomadic’ outlook).
In the exhibition you are invited to step through the artist’s personal rooms, all interconnected to create a somewhat surreal walkway.  As we walked through we felt calmed and soothed by his select colour palette - Yves Klein blue, dusted greens and fresh magenta.

Stepping from room to room, you no doubt feel welcomed into Do Ho Suh’s previous homes. With each section specific to a certain era in his life. This purposefully reminds us that our homes are not only a physical structure but an emotional place also.
We love this intimate approach and humbling message, which not only results in aesthetically pleasing work but also a unique artistic experience.

Passage/s runs until the 18th March at Victoria Miro, catch it before it closes!
