#KITRIrecommends

“If you could have invented one garment, what would it be, and why?” “The plain white shirt”.

Rei Kawakubo, Founder Comme des Garçons
Ah the button-down shirt. A staple in every wardrobe and arguably the most versatile piece of clothing ever created. Ever since women decided to go against the status quo in the 50s, adding button downs to their wardrobes, the shirt has remained an essential in every stylish woman’s wardrobe. Season by season, the humble button-down appears on runways across the world reinvented and reimagined.
Here at KITRI we are all about reinventing the classics by giving them a modern playful twist. Of course the key components of a shirt are still present; cuff, collars, buttons - But not as you know it. Think flared sleeves, exaggerated proportions, wrap details and splashes of colour.

But that’s not what makes our shirts really special. At KITRI we believe in quality and the art of garment creation. As a small team of designers, each shirt is meticulously thought through with every detail, seam and cut perfected down to the finest details using only the best fabrics.

Luckily, sitting across from one of our talented KITRI pattern cutters and shirt lover Elly has it’s perks. I get to see these intricate design decisions and plans come to life. I speak to Elly about what makes the KITRI shirt a cut above the rest within it’s price range, and she fills me on some exclusive details.
“Allow me to introduce you to the KITRI collar” she says as she pulls out a bag filled with patterns of collar tests. “We spent days working to perfect this collar. After hours and hours of drafting, fitting and reworking, we have created what we believe is the perfect collar for the working woman. No horrible plastic inside and no fuss. So you can pop your shirt on and go about your day without feeling uncomfortable”

Ready to ditch your old plain shirt? Here’s how to join the shirt revolution and replace your current classic with a KITRI hero piece.

1. SIZE MATTERS

The size of your cuffs that is. Apart from our playful twist of adding some colour to the classic blue striped button down, our Morera striped shirt features large statement cuffs split on the inside arm from the cuff to the underarm, adding some extra drama. But fear not, these fabulous cuffs won't get in the way of your everyday life, they are expertly cut so they fall below your elbow. Stylish and practical - win win!

2. IT'S ALL IN THE DETAIL

Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference and the added corset style details of our Monica Eyelet sleeve shirt  and Sylvie Corset shirt prove that. Cut from 100% crisp cotton sateen with silver eyelets, this is how you rock the corset trend like a KITRI girl

 3. ALL WRAPPED UP

A classic shirt with a modern twist - literally. Made from 100% cotton, our Antoinette shirt is guaranteed to have you turning heads. The versatile straps allow you to style it up as you please and have a little fun with it. Tie the straps around your chest for a little drama but if that's not your style keep it chic and simply wrap it around your waist. The possibilities are endless!

4. BORROWED FROM THE BOYS

There’s nothing more chic and effortless than a crisp, tailored shirt and our Herrera shirts in white and striped are no exception. Inspired by an oversized men’s shirt, this shirt is a classic. Complete with our Matisse inspired KITRI flower subtly embroidered on the inside of left cuff. You can dress it up or down as you please or wear it as a shirt dress if you dare.

Now you've got the shirt, here's some #KITRInspiration to help you style it up like your favourite style girl crush.
