London born and bred, with the sense of humour to go with it,
Daisy are all about creating modern heirlooms to be worn everyday and that will live in your jewellery box for years to come. A firm Team KITRI favourite, we love finishing off our looks with one of Daisy's signature layering sets.
We caught up with Daisy founder, Ruth Bewsey, to chat business, Christmas and KITRI!
We’d love to know a bit more about Daisy and how you went about starting the brand!
I joined the small family run business back in 2009 to help build the brand, and like any small business, I all adapted to whatever was needed at the time. When we first launched our website, there was nothing that beat the feeling of having orders sitting there from while we slept - it was so surreal and so exciting. We had a small office, which only just fit our desk in, with tiny drawers full of jewellery right behind me. I’d pack the orders up, printing everything on a small desktop printer, walk to the post office to stand in line and post each parcel individually. There were late nights grafting and endless sales calls to get Daisy out there in to the world, and I loved it.
Fast forward a few years, a couple of babies and lot more staff, there are still late nights, samples and designs everywhere and unexpected problems, but I am in my dream job, leading the brand and a brilliant team. I’m so proud to look back at how far we’ve come and so excited to see what we can do next.
What has been your biggest challenge and greatest success so far?
I’m sure this is the same for a lot of people, but probably balancing and navigating (or attempting) the past 18 months. The biggest challenge was everything we thought we knew being thrown up in the air at the beginning of 2020, and trying to work through this as a brand whilst working at home with two babies. But that lead to the greatest success. We were forced to look at the now, not the future. We connected with our customers and audience even more and whilst we felt further away than ever, we we were invited close in to peoples lives. Lockdown was a strange time, but it was a special time on reflection.
How are you preparing for the festive season? Will you be out-out this year, or keeping it cosy at home?
We were meant to be hosting this year, but as I write this, I’m currently on day six of isolation - all four of us in the house have been struck with the virus, so we, like I’m sure a lot of people out there, will be having a quiet one…again. However, this means I’m going big on the food, big on the decorations and big on the look, with outfit changes encouraged.
What are your favourite styles from KITRI Winter Collection? Where will you be wearing them over the festive season?
Can we take a moment to appreciate the
Angie pink jumpsuit. Whaaaat?! I’ve always been a fan of a jumpsuit and KITRI do them so well. The
Mara red velvet dress is a head turner as well, piled high with gold chains of course. Day to day I love an oversized shirt, so the
Mila velvet shirt caught my eye straight away. I think for this year I’ll wear a vintage KITRI number to start.
What’s up next for Daisy?
We’ve been working on a collection that’s a little bit different, so I’m really excited to show that. Plus more signature designs, collaborations and adventures!
